Letter from the Rector

Greetings in the Blessed Name of our Lord and Savior Jesus, the Christ.

It is an honor that you have visited our website and have been interested enough to navigate to this page! Ours is a parish full of capable, inspiring and inspired people. We are full of folks who are creative and successful and engaging. We are full of people that can be defined in those ways, but are so much more than any definition that can be constructed. We are full of questions and not satisfied with easy answers.

But in order to introduce you to our parish, I’d like to tell you about something that happened recently. It was a regular Sunday morning, the first Sunday of April, the third day of the month, the fourth Sunday in the Lenten season. The service was continuing along according to the order of worship (we call it the liturgy) and then the choir got up to sing the anthem (which, by the way, you can listen to here). While the anthem was wonderful, its memory then joined with the scene, during Communion, of members of our parish praying with each other. If you can imagine, even as the choir’s tones had not yet faded from memory, even as other members came forward to gather around the altar for a meal of bread and wine, members were kneeling with other members – those serving in the role of “healers” kneeling with those who needed specific prayers for healing - helping them to bear their burdens and helping them to know that they are not alone.

In the gospel of John, there were some folks who were intrigued with Jesus. They asked him where he was staying. His simple response to them was “Come and see.” So, likewise, you are invited to come and see (mind you, I am not playing the role of Jesus; the Church is). Come and see what was so powerful about that regular Sunday on the 3rd of April. Come and see what happens when this particular group of people joins together in worship. Come and see how a group of committed people become more than we ever could be by ourselves. Come and see the love of the God of Jesus in action. Come and see how a small group can do so much for justice and peace. Come and see how we are trying to figure out what it means to live as loving and caring people in a world where love and care seem to be in short supply.

Continue to explore our website, send an email, post a question, make a call and after all of that, simply Come and See!

Yours in Christ,

Lawrence+
