Music Ministry
Music is a dynamic, transforming force that edifies and enhances our worship week after week. We believe that music is nourishment for our spiritual lives. Through the gifts of time and talent given by choir members and instrumentalists, God's word to us in worship is amplified, our fellowship is enlivened, and our learning is underscored. Many opportunities are offered for both the novice and the experienced to participate in creating this intergenerational ministry. There is a place for you!
Areas of Opportunity:
- Adult and Children’s Choirs – Rehearsals: Adults Sundays 8:45-10 am; Children Sundays 10-10:15 am (first Sunday after Labor Day through Trinity Sunday)
- Cantors – practice arranged with music director at a time convenient to the cantor.
- Instrumentalist – do you play an instrument? Let us know!
The 2012 Music Season
David Pegg began as St. Anne’s Minister of Music in September 2010. In this position, David oversees the entire music program and helps foster its growth, including leading the choir in Sunday and other special services and supervising our organist, Molly North.
We are extremely fortunate to have a musician of David’s ability and experience to St. Anne’s. At the end of July, after 18 years of service, David retired as Director of Music and the Arts at Centenary United Methodist Church, in Winston-Salem. Among his too-numerous-to mention musical distinctions and achievements, David has served on the faculty of Salem College, UNC-Greensboro (where he received his undergraduate and graduate degrees in music) and Kent State University. He has led many community and professional choruses, including serving as Artistic Director and Conductor for 20 years for the distinguished Bel Canto Company in Greensboro, the Triad’s premier choral ensemble.
We also are very fortunate to have Molly North as our organist. Molly studied organ with Roger Cole at Randolph-Macon Women's College where she earned a Bachelor of Music degree and won the VA, MD American Guild of Organists' regional student competition her senior year. She later studied with Max Miller at Boston University School of Theology where she earned a Master of Sacred Music degree.
Molly has served as organist/music director in churches in Connecticut, Texas, and Louisiana, where she also taught music education at Episcopal schools. She is a member of the American Guild of Organists, and has a special interest in hymnody and improvisation.
St. Anne's Adult Choir
St. Anne's Adult Choir is a volunteer choir composed of both amateur and professional musicians. The choir sings a wide variety of sacred music from Renaissance to Modern. The choir sings at the 11:00 service of Holy Eucharist each Sunday after Labor Day through Trinity Sunday.
The choir has sung at the National Cathedral, Diocesan Conventions, and other venues in the Triad area.
St. Anne’s Children’s Choir
The children and youth of St. Anne's are able to experience the joy and fun of musical worship through participation in the St. Anne's Children Choir. The choir meets each Sunday for a portion of the Sunday School hour so that all have the opportunity to participate, and sings a wide range of music. The Children's Choir sings for the Christmas Pageant and other special occasions, and periodically joins the Adult Choir at the 11:00 service of Holy Eucharist. The Children’s Choir is led by Paige French.
