Jim Croom

Interim Rector

The Very Rev. Dr. James Croom came to St. Anne’s on December 1 and celebrated his first Sunday services as interim rector on December 4. Jim very quickly became enmeshed in the spirit of St. Anne’s and has used his talents and experience to support the church’s worship and its outreach.

Jim has been a priest since 2001, following his first career as a professional opera singer. In addition to performing nationally, he also was a North Carolina Visiting Artist. His singing career also provided many opportunities to support worship across faiths and ecumenically.

A graduate of the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill with Bachelor and Master’s degrees in music performance, Jim earned a Master of Divinity degree in pastoral theology in 2001 and a Doctor of Ministry with an emphasis on church conflict in 2015.

Jim came to St. Anne’s from Wyoming, Michigan where he had served as dean of the Grand Valley Deanery and also had ben rector at Holy Trinity. He explains his liturgical style as honoring the Anglican heritage while tailoring the worship experience to the unique characteristics of a parish. He also says he loves to see the incorporation of youth into services and encourages fervent prayers for each other as well as for the needs of the community, the nation, and the world. In a few short months, Jim has successfully incorporated his style, his expertise, and his skill as a tenor into the life of St. Anne’s.
